A schwannoma at the knee is one of those diagnoses that arrives quietly but leaves a long list of open questions. You may have received it after an MRI ordered for unrelated knee pain, or after noticing a slowly growing mass near the back of your knee or along the popliteal fossa.

A neuroma after knee surgery or trauma doesn't behave like ordinary post-operative soreness. It burns, it buzzes, it flares when you least expect it, and it often sits in a small, specific spot — over the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve, along an old incision, or near a portal scar — while the rest of the knee has otherwise healed.

Pain along the inner, lower edge of the knee that doesn't match what the MRI shows is one of the more disorienting experiences in orthopedic medicine. The scan looks reasonable, the joint moves the way it should, and yet a specific spot below the joint line burns, tingles, or aches in a way that standard knee advice never quite resolves.
